Effective technology is built and deployed based on the business process flows it supports and automates. Unfortunately, the reality is just the opposite - business processes reflect the “flavor” of the platform on which they are processed. The result is unnecessary complexity, software bloat, and inertia. When you are devising a migration, it is important to map out and understand the core business processes and how software automates them. Understanding the core inputs, processing and outputs is a start - however the common SaaS platforms have become so packed with every imaginable bell and whistle, that the user experience is no longer well understood. Do you really need everything you have? You are paying for it, but do you need it? Holding a spotlight up to the business processes and understanding what is actually needed is very valuable.
